Making My Childhood Home My Adult Home

The countdown has begun to our big move. We are in the process of moving into the home I grew up in. My parents have owned this house for well over 20 years and in June it will become my house again - only now it will be mine in a whole new way. The updating this house to our personal style has just begun. This is the before glimpse into the house. Keep in mind that my parent's are mid-move - so the house is a mess and they have sold off much of their furniture and decor. Lucky for us we are able to go ahead and start re-decorating before we move in and they move out. It's always nice to get a head start!

So this is the family room. Probably my favorite room in the house. I love the high ceilings and all the windows. The light in here is always really pretty. Notice the flooring samples - that is an ordeal! We are in the process of choosing new flooring for the entire home. I want hardwood everywhere - including the stairs but we will see what decision we reach. It seems like we are meeting with different installation crews every other day.

Our design style is pretty modern and somewhat minimal. I love clean lines, no clutter (*tricky with 4 boys), and tend to steer towards a neutral color palette. The majority of the downstairs will be painted gray.

We have to update the banisters too....trying to work in a reasonable budget so for the time being they will most likely be getting a fresh coat of paint. Goodbye light wood...you are not my favorite.

My parents had updated the kitchen a few years back so that room will mainly be getting fresh paint, new flooring, and new furniture - this is currently all of my parents furnishings.

I love this staircase and I'm so eager to see it with hardwoods and painted railings + of course gray walls too!

We are thinking about possibly wallpaper in this room. Also going to change out the light fixture, new flooring, paint, and modern furnishings. I want swan paper - trying to sway my husband that way!

Currently this is the formal living room. No, my parents aren't hoarders but my mom is a reading specialist and a huge book collector. She is slowly trying to sell & donate her book collection. This room will become a combo playroom/creative room. The plan is to create a space for play and also for homework/projects/art. I'm so excited to have a spot like that in our home!

Currently my father's office - expect there to be a lot more pink and a lot less blue (like non) when this becomes my office. I am beyond excited about those bookcases.

Downstairs guest bath - nothing too major will happen in here for a while. We hope to update the mirror and vanity. Also new paint - possibly wallpaper.

This is the room we call the loft - it's between the master and kids rooms. We will completely change the layout and set this up as the kids tv/video game space.

Master bedroom - hoping to have the hardwoods, new paint, and our furnishing to make it feel more us.

The master bath will be an endeavor for sure. I don't know where to even start - lol! Probably this wallpaper but this will be our last room to re-do (mainly because it will have to be completely gutted).

This room will become the guest bedroom.

This is the space that my youngest two will share. Picture lots of bright colors!

This is my childhood bedroom - still as messy as when I lived there (just kidding...kinda). In my absence this has become the main book storage room. It's in the process of being cleaned out. This will become my older two boys room. So there will definitely no longer be a floral border. They want a very minimal space - all blacks, grays, and whites. They say it's because they are older and need a "cool" room. Works for me boys!

I forgot to put up pictures of the kids bathroom but that will be getting updated as well. I'm be over there painting this week and I'll snap some images to share. Also there is a storage room we call the pool room (that will be going super tropical with glitter floor because I'm going to go creative crazy in there) and the backyard has a pool so I will be creating some fun outdoor updates too! Can't wait to share the whole process with you! I just think it is so special that my kids will get to grow up in the same home I did. Can you feel my excitement!?! I'm so overwhelmed with all that we need to do but the excitement is totally overpowering that emotion.
